My goal with this story was to document the intimate and often quiet parts of motherhood, Shown below are Savannah Freeman and her two girls. Isla Mohr, 7-years-old, and Maya Mohr, 2-years-old. I was interested in how the three looked at one another, what relationships they shared, and how those things were visualized. Savannah is a printmaking artist based in Athens, Ohio. She works from home from the studio in her attic, as well as being a full-time mother. Managing both is often difficult for Freeman, this is a theme that will show up throughout the work. The balance of motherhood and identity is partly at play in this story. Freeman spoke about her girls with softness “I am constantly amazed by the people that my girls are growing into…I am continuously in awe of how kind Isla is to Maya and how much she is willing to help, how often she thinks of helping before she gets asked. Watching the girls interact might be my favorite part of being a mom.” says Freeman. The love the three share with one another is extraordinarily their own.
